Metal raised beds for your garden
Manufactured from either corten or mild steel, our raised beds are ideal for new garden designs or if you want to replace old, rotting wooden beds.
Both mild and corten steel garden beds are allowed to weather naturally, allowing them to develop a coloured patina over the course of 6 months or so. This adds a lovely natural finish while also protecting the metal so your beds will last for years to come.
Our raised beds and planters are also cross-braced, helping you avoid billow sides, which is a common issue with raised wooden beds. This means you’ll still have those lovely straight edges down the line, with the steel being strong enough to deal with heavy soil.
How deep does a raised planter need to be?
You don’t need to make your raised bed really deep in order for it to allow your plants to grow, so you have plenty of options when it comes to height. Typically, raised flower beds should be between 8 and 12 inches high while vegetable beds are best off being 12 to 18 inches.
If your garden soil is quite compact, meaning draining could be an issue – especially if your plants prefer drier soil – you might want to make your metal raised beds deeper.
Does a raised planter need drainage?
Raised garden beds and planters are a great way of increasing drainage, so you shouldn’t need to add any extra drainage. As they don’t have a solid base, the water can simply drain away into the garden soil, stopping your plants from becoming waterlogged.
If you have a raised planter with a solid base, however, you should be sure to add drainage holes. We build our raised planters using steel side panels and cross-braces for support, so drainage isn’t an issue.
This improved drainage does mean you’ll need to keep an eye on the watering needs of your plants though, especially during warm weather.
How long do steel garden beds last?
Mild or corten steel garden beds should last for years, allowing you to enjoy your garden for an extended period of time. Corten steel, for example, can last up to 8 times longer than traditional steel, so you won’t need to worry about replacing your raised beds any time soon!
Do you have to line a raised garden bed?
If you have wooden raised beds, it’s a good idea to line them to stop any chemicals the wood may have been treated with from leaching into the soil. However, you don’t have to line our metal raised beds, making life a lot easier.

With a typical thickness of 5mm, our mild or corten steel raised garden beds are a space-saving option that allows you to plant more and create a neater garden than traditional wooden raised beds.
While we typically deliver our steel raised beds as they are to allow the metal to weather over time, they can be painted on-site if you want to create a different look for your garden.
As well as providing a bespoke design, we also offer an installation service, so your garden will be ready for planting in no time thanks to our skilled craftsmen. Alternatively, you can order your steel garden beds on a self-fit basis – including all the pins and locking mechanisms you need – allowing you to install them when it suits you.
