How To Install Your Legacy Steel Lawn Edging

Whether you’re installing metal garden edging or driveway edging, our Legacy system makes it simple.

We designed our steel edging with easy installation in mind, with simple connections that mean it takes no time at all to create a clean line and delineate between different sections of your garden.

Made of solid UK steel, our landscape edging is held perfectly in place by strong steel pins. These pins, which measure 400mm long and 16mm in diameter, are driven through connection bosses to create a seamless joint and a sturdy, versatile edge.

These pins also mean that Legacy garden edging is much stronger than options on the market, as they allow you to create a continuous rin of edging with all fixings hidden underground and just the butt joints visible.

Our edging system can be used to create various shapes, including curves, so you can bring your landscaping designs to life. It can also be used in all soil types, as well as on uneven ground, so if you’re installing steel edging on a slope, Legacy makes this easy.

How to Install Our Driveway Edging

  1. Mark out the line you require using a string line or spray marker.
  2. Dig a trench that allows half of the vertical face of your edging to be underground. The trench only needs to be narrow (no more than 10cm wide). If you’re installing the edging next to a lawn, make sure you have faced back the lawn, describing the line you require.
  3. Start the installation of your metal lawn edging from a corner. Our system includes preformed corner pieces (both 90 degree right angles and 270 degree right angles are available. This measurement is from the face of the edging). It’s best to work from the most prominent corner first. Attach two to three lengths using the locking pins provided (the lengths will hold together firmly while still allowing the whole length to bend as one) and then add a corner piece.
  4. Site the first corner piece vertically in the trench. When you are happy that the line is correct, drive the pins into the ground until flush with the collars.
  5. Keep attaching lengths until you arrive at the next corner piece. The last length will require accurate trimming using an angle grinder or hacksaw to allow it to butt up to the next corner piece. Every corner piece comes with a joining plate as standard. This joining plate clamps the cut length to the next corner piece. Joining plates are only required for completing corners.

What types of metal lawn edging are available?

We have four different types of steel driveway edging available across our Legacy 3,5 and 6 ranges. Each type of steel offers versatile and durable edging that can withstand gardening equipment and enable you to create clean lines.

Corten Steel Edging

Available in our Legacy 3 and Legacy 5 ranges, corten steel doesn’t need any maintenance once it has been installed. The steel goes through a natural weathering process that leaves it with an attractive rusty finish, adding colour to your garden and protecting it.

Galvanised Steel Edging

Our galvanised steel edging is ideal for high traffic areas and tiered garden designs due to being incredibly strong. Available in Legacy 5 and Legacy 6, galvanised steel edging is protected against corrosion and weathering, so it is ideal for wetter conditions.

Mild Steel Edging

Mild steel lawn edging delivers a strong and robust finish with an attractive look. When allowed to weather, this metal edging develops a rust coating. We offer mild steel as an option across our Legacy 3, Legacy 5 and Legacy 6 ranges.

How is your steel garden edging delivered?

Our traditional steel edging comes in convenient 3m lengths. It is solid steel and, depending on the size of the order, can be delivered by:

  • Pallet delivery for 20-100m
  • Orders over 100m can come in lengths of 6m and will be delivered by Lorry.
