The client got in touch with us at The Traditional Company to discuss the proposed entrance gate and iron railings he wanted for his estate in Derbyshire. Martin visited the site to discuss the various options they were considering and offer advice on styles. The team in the office costed it on that basis and created drawings. Once this was all agreed Martin went back to template the radius sections so we had an accurate template to work with.

The bespoke vertical rail entrance gate were handmade by our fabrication team in Leicestershire to the exact specifications and made for automation. The client also had two existing gates that he wanted refurbished. The gates were sent away to be shot blasted before the team could set to task repairing them.  For the first gate the team had to straighten the hanging side and modify the bottom hanging plate. On the second gate the top section had rusted away and was unstable so the team needed to rebuild this and rework the central scroll. They also changed the hinge handles. Both of gates had their latches modified for the team to reattach them.

The 4 vertical railing panels ranged in sizes and two were curved.

    • 4010mm (w) x 1440mm (h) – curved
    • 2575mm (w) x 1440mm (h)
    • 2575mm (w) x 1440mm (h)
    • 4040mm (w) x 1440mm (h) – curved

The Fabrication team created the vertical iron railings panels at the workshop to the exact sizes and they were sent site to be met by the installation team. The client had altered the finish of the gate piers which was different to our original drawings but the team were able to alter the railings and create a perfect finish.

How were the railings installed?

The gates were set in place first so the railings would run from the height of the gates. We dry fitted the railings to check the length and curves and then resin set the horace joints, which carry the railings. These allow some wriggle room when fitting and create a neat finish to the horizontal rail.

A note from Martin,

It is always so rewarding realising a clients wishes and delivering an elegant set of gates and railings that are tailor made by our very experienced team of fabricators to very specific set of measurements.
