We were recently asked to manufacture and install 88 meters of Burghley fence around a large pond on a rural property in Essex. The clients wanted to ensure the safety of their grandchildren and pet dog by preventing access to the water.
The client also requested a gate to allow controlled access to the pond. This was handmade at our fabrication unit in Leicestershire, alongside the ball-top end posts. They chose our Quadrant Gate, which features elegant central detailing and a shepherd’s crook finish along the top. As all of our gates are handmade, each one is bespoke and tailored to your exact design and requirements — we can even match existing gates on your property.

The Burghley fence was delivered in loose components, allowing our team to assemble and install it on-site around the pond. Once fully installed, the fence was painted black — although our fences can also be left to develop a natural rusted finish, or painted in a colour of your choice.
To ensure the family’s Labrador couldn’t slip through the lower rails and access the pond, lambs wire was added along the bottom section.
The end result is both practical and visually pleasing. The family now enjoys peace of mind, knowing their grandchildren and dog are safe. The fence blends beautifully into the natural surroundings and subtly enhances the look of the property without drawing too much attention away from the pond itself.
The clients were delighted with the outcome and commented that the fence brought a new level of safety and structure to their garden without feeling intrusive. It’s always satisfying to deliver a solution that balances function, safety, and appearance — especially when it helps protect the things that matter most.
